The general aim of the department of history is to broaden and deepen the student's knowledge of the principal events, trends, institutions and persons of historic significance. The specific aims are to acquaint the student with the basic tools and methods of research and expression, both written and oral, and to develop skills of analysis and synthesis for the evaluation of historic evidence.
